Super Mario
Mario is one of the most popular and recognizable characters of all time. Once upon a time he and his brother Luigi were just plumbers, not even Super Plumbers. From such humble origins they have truly moved on up. Still mostly working the platformer circuit, Mario and friends are also moonlighting on adventure titles, go-kart racing, even their own Role-Playing Game. Try out our selection for the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo, and Game Boy!

Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga Gameboy Advance Screenshot 1
Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga (Gameboy Advance)
In what i would call a sequel to super Mario rpg, the goodwill ambassador from the beanbean kingdom comes to pay the mushroom kingdom a visit, but little does princess peach know they have another motive, allowing them into her castle princess peach greets them in her throne room, they then gas they princess and steal her voice and replaced it with an explosive vocabulary? Yea kinda babyish. So whenever she talks explosives come out of her speech bubble. Bowser who came to kidnap the princess joins forces with mario because he doesn't want princess peach in this state, so his motive is to get back princess peach's voice so that he can kidnap her. If you love final fantasy and mario then this is the game for you although if you don't like one of those you probably wont like this. It implements gamplay from both final fantasy and the classic 2-d side scroller, During battle you're given opportunity's to dodge and attack combos (see in-game battle tutorial) It's not what i would call a bad game, smooth graphics good game play however somethings just annoy me mainly the low hits its not very exciting when your dealing damage of 2's or 3's they could have simply just put up the enemies health and raised the power accordingly, granted that you do obviously increase in power as you progress but for the first 10 minutes it may put you off. There are more pros than cons in my opinion, for example the fact that no one in the game knows who Luigi is, and are constantly just calling him marios brother or Mr. Green or green mustache or... you get the idea.

You can play alone, or team up with a friend as Mario and Luigi tackle this underground adventure together. There are plenty of cagey critters to conquer -- turtles, crabs and fireflies, to mention a few. You'll progress through endless levels of challenge collecting gold coins and building your score as you go.

Selling over 1.6 million copies, this arcade game port was, to say the least, very popular. The game was a lot more successfull here in the U.S. than it was in Japan. It looked just as good as it's arcade counterpart, graphically, and the sounds were well ported also. The controls were easy to learn besause there were only two functions, move and jump. The story is kinda silly with it being set in the sewers of New York. This arcade mega classic offers a lot of fun and a ton of replayability.

Mario Golf Gameboy Color Screenshot 1
Mario Golf (Gameboy Color)
Mario Golf is a fun golf game. This game has been on N64 and Gamecube as well. I've played them all, and this one is good even though it's the most limited system out of the three. The graphics looked great considering the fact that Gameboy had 8-bit graphics. The sounds were enjoyable, they sounded a lot like the original on N64. The controls were easy, but they did seem a little unresponsive.

The gameplay is a lot of fun because you get to make your own character and then you can play against other pros in match play or tournament play. You can also pick Mario or Luigi and practice a course. If you like golf games, this one is a lot of fun.

Mario Is Missing! NES Screenshot 1
Mario Is Missing! (NES)
Well, the title pretty much sums it up. Mario is Missing! Bowser has kidnapped Mario to prevent him from stopping his newest scheme. The Koopa King has unleashed a plot to wreak havoc across the globe by stealing artifacts from historic sites around the world.

Luigi must travel from city to city throughout the world, with help from Yoshi, recovering the stolen items from thieving Koopas, and searching for Mario to finally foil Bowser's dastardly deeds!

The graphics in Mario Is Missing seem a bit primitive by our standards, but I think it's mainly because we're used to seeing Luigi, Yoshi and the gang, in cartoon worlds rather than a pixelated representation of our world. In any case it doesn't take away from the gameplay, which is fun and quite educational.

Oh no! Bowser and his bad boys are back to a life of crime. This time, it's not Mario World -- it's your world! From his Antarctic castle, Bowser hustles his cold-blooded crew of cantankerous Koopas into his powerful Passcode Operated Remote Transport And Larceny System (PORTALS). The twisted turtles transport themselves throughout the globe, where celebrated cities suffer shocking crime waves, as turtles trash landmarks and loot ancient artifacts. With dough from his slimy sales, Bowser hoards hair dryers from the Hafta-Havit Hotline. His plot? Melt Antarctica and flood the planet! Whoa!

Will the brave brothers from Brooklyn permit this abominable snow plan? The boys say "Not!" Mario, Luigi and Yoshi trek across ice and snow to shellac the shelled ones' schemes. But Bowser's slick; in one last trick, he takes the dearest thing of all... Mario is Missing!

Luigi must stop the Koopas, foil Bowser's plan, and find Mario. Sneaking into each Portal, Luigi is transported to a city in trouble. There, Luigi needs to nab each Koopa, grab its loot, and return the artifact to its proper landmark. Along the way, Luigi explores the city, chats with the locals, reads the maps, and solves puzzles. Help him do this before time runs out! Once he figures out where he is on the globe, Luigi must use the "Globulator" to call Yoshi. Only after Yoshi scares Pokey away, can Luigi return to Bowser's castle and lock the Portal for that city.
--From the Super Nintendo Mario Is Missing! instruction manual.

OH NO!!! Mario has gone missing. What's even worse is that Bowser has set up a castle in the Antarctic and plans to melt the ice to flood the world. In order to do this he is going to use a crap load of hair dryers. In order to fund this plan, he has sent his Koopa Troopas to steal artifacts from across the world. Now it's up to Luigi to get the artifacts back, stop Bowser, and save Mario, who is imprisoned somewhere in Bowser's castle. So good luck, Luigi!

Mario is Missing! is a fun game that is not only entertaining but also educational. The graphics are good and stay true to the classic Mario look. The music is the classic Mario music, but it plays in the style of wherever in the world you happen to be. All in all, this is a worthwhile game to play.

Ah, the easy life. For Mario, that is. And that also describes the game. Too easy. Even for a preschool child it's too easy. I wouldn't even dig this game as a 3 or 4 year old. Although the animations are really catchy. Bottom line: Nintendo made a grave mistake making this game. Children of course love playing as the mustached Plumber, but they'd rather see him stomping on goombas rather than bumping his head on a red square.

One night, Mario had a mysterious dream. He dreamed he was climbing a long stairway that led up and up to a closed door. When he reached the top and opened the door, he found himself gazing out at a world he had never seen, stretching out to the horizon. Then he heard a voice say, “This is Subcon, the land of dreams. The evil toad, Wart, has used his magic to lay a curse upon the land. Please defeat Wart and free us from his spell. Oh - and remember that Wart hates vegetables. Hurry! We need your help!” And then a bolt of lightning suddenly split the sky, and Mario woke up to find himself on the floor. He had fallen out of bed! A few days later, Mario and his friends hiked to some nearby mountains for a picnic. Upon reaching their picnic spot, they looked around and found a small cave. When they entered the cave, they were amazed to discover the land Mario had seen in his dream stretching out before them.
--From the Gameboy Advance Super Mario Advance instruction manual.

Now as the first Mario title for the Gameboy Advance, Super Mario Advance is probably the first game most people who owned the system had played. This game is, in essence, a remake of Super Mario Bros. 2. Now while most Mario fanatics know of this classic being remade in the SNES collection known as Super Mario All-Stars, this collection stands on its own quite well.

Graphics are what you'll notice right off the bat; examples being some of the enemies appearing bigger and the scenery looking more vibrant and colorful. Sound has also been updated; along with music enhancements, digital voice acting has been given to the characters, my personal favorite being Charles Martinet being the voice of Mario himself.

While most gamers feel like Super Mario Bros. 2 wasn't the most fitting for a first title in the Super Mario Advance series, it's very much worth playing through.

SUPER MARIO BROS. THE LOST LEVELS
The Mushroom Kingdom was a peaceful place, until the fateful day that Bowser used his twisted magic to invade it. Bowser turned most of the Mushroom Kingdom's people into rocks, bricks, and mushrooms. He even kidnapped Princess Toadstool and held her captive in his huge castle.

When the Mario Brothers, Mario and Luigi, heard this, they knew that they needed to do something. They decided to battle Bowser and his evil minions to save the Princess. Can they do it?

SUPER MARIO BROS. 2
One evening, Mario had a strange dream. He dreamt of a long, long stairway leading up to a door. As soon as the door opened, he was confronted with a world he had never seen before spreading out as far as his eyes could see. Suddenly, he heard a faint voice saying "Welcome to 'Subcon', the land of dreams. We have been cursed by Wart. Please defeat Wart and save us. Remember, Wart hates vegetables. Please help us!"

The next day, on the way to a picnic, Mario talked to Luigi, Toad, and the Princess about the strange dream he had. After arriving at the picnic area, they found a small cave. When they opened the door in this cave, to their great surprise, the world that Mario saw in his dream spread out before them!

SUPER MARIO BROS. 3
The Mushroom Kingdom has been a peaceful place thanks to the brave deeds of Mario and Luigi. The Mushroom Kingdom forms an entrance to the Mushroom World where all is not well. Bowser has sent his 7 children to make mischief as they please in the normally peaceful Mushroom World. They stole the royal magic wands from each country in the Mushroom World and used them to turn their kings into animals. Mario and Luigi must recover the royal magic wands from Bowser's 7 kids to return the kings to their true forms. "Good-bye and good luck!", said the Princess and Toad as Mario and Luigi set off on their journey deep into the Mushroom World.

Beat Bowser in multiple Mario games, this time including Super Mario World!

This compilation of Super Mario games is by far the best series that has graced Nintendo since Pac-Man. I was extremely young when I first played this, and it was the first time I even touched a video game controller. I wasn't bad for being able to get past the 2nd world without using the warp zones. A very popular game, I recommend this one to everyone who likes nostalgia with a touch of modern-day in it!

One day the kingdom of the peaceful mushroom people was invaded by the Koopaa tribe of turtles famous for their black magic. The quiet, peace-loving Mushroom People were turned into mere stones, bricks and even field horse-hair plants, and the Mushroom Kingdom fell into ruin.

The only one who can undo the magic spell on the Mushroom People and return them to their normal selves is the Princess Toadstool, the daughter of the Mushroom King. Unfortunately, she is presently in the hands of the great Koopa turtle king.

Mario, the hero of this story (maybe) hears about the Mushroom People's plight and sets out on a quest to free the Mushroom Princess from the evil Koopa and restore the fallen kingdom of the Mushroom People.

You are Mario! It's up to you to save the Mushroom People from the black magic of the Koopa!
--From the NES Super Mario Bros. instruction manual.

Super Mario Bros. was one of the great classics, and everyone has played it, but we will give you a little insight on the game. Based on the arcade game Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. became one of the most popular games ever. It had decent graphics and was fairly easy to play. You play either Mario Or Luigi, two plumbers that are trying to save the Princess Toadstool of the Mushroom Kingdom from the dreaded King Koopa. Super Mario Bros. was the start of a great series that has continued to this day.

One evening, Mario had a strange dream. He dreamt of a long, long stairway leading up to a door. As soon as the door opened, he was confronted with a world he had never seen before spreading out as far as his eyes could see. When he strained his ears to listen, he heard a faint voice saying "Welcome to 'Subcon', the land of dreams. We have been cursed by Wart and we are completely under his evil spell. We have been awaiting your arrival. Please defeat Wart and return Subcon to its natural state. The curse Wart has put on you in the real world will not have any effect upon you here. Remember, Wart hates vegetables. Please help us!" At the same time this was heard, a bolt of lightning flashed before Mario's eyes. Stunned, Mario lost his footing and tumbled upside down. He awoke with a start to find himself sitting up in his bed. To clear his head, Mario talked to Luigi, Toad and the Princess about the strange dream he had. They decide to go to a nearby mountain for a picnic. After arriving at the picnic area and looking at the scenery, they see a small cave nearby. When they enter this cave, to their great surprise, there's a stairway leading up, up and up. It is exactly like the one Mario saw in his dream. They all walk together up thew stairs and at the top, find a door just like the one in Mario's dream. When Mario and his friends, in fear, open the door, to their surprise, the world that Mario saw in his dream spreads out before them!

Super Mario Bros. 2 was a pretty fun game. It boasted a good many changes from the original. For instance, in this one you can choose to play as Mario, Luigi, Princess, or Toad. Another big difference was the ability to gain more than just two hit points. In this game you could get up to four. Personally, I didn't like Super Mario Bros. 2 as much as the original, but I think it still did pretty well. I'm glad they went back to something more like the original for Super Mario Bros. 3. If you like Mario games, be sure to try Super Mario Bros. 2.

--From the NES Super Mario Bros. 3 instruction manual.

It wasn't long ago when we had set off on an exciting adventure to rescue the Sub-Con World. The characters have now arrived back at the Mushroom Kingdom, and it seems that everything is remaining peaceful...until one fateful day...

Bowser invades again! But this time it's not the Mushroom Kingdom he's after. It's the Mushroom WORLD he wants! And this time he's brought his 7 Kids (known as the Koopalings) to help him control the world! Bowser and his 7 children, Iggy, Lemmy, Wendy, Morton, Roy, Larry and Ludwig Von invade the 8 kingdoms in the Mushroom World and steal each kingdom's magic wand from its holder, that kingdom's king. The Koopalings turn the kings into animals using the wands, and havoc is eventually wreaked again among the Mushroom World. But all hope is not lost...

Enter the plumber brothers, who bear no grudge against Bowser and his children. The two brothers are now setting off to get the wands back, and kick Bowser and the Koopalings out of the Mushroom World for good! So, it's up to you to help them venture through 8 worlds and restore peace to the Mushroom World.

The brothers now walk out of the gates of the Mushroom Kingdom, into the wide, open world. "Goodbye!" Princess Toadstool and Toad shout as they wave to the brothers, who are now ready for their biggest adventure yet!

This was a monumental game for Nintendo. They decided to go back to the roots and they made it a lot more like the original Super Mario game. An upgrade to the graphics and the addition of the ability to fly made for a great game. This was the first game to feature the overland map where you can sort of choose your own path. This game also debuted the ability to fight your opponent for the next turn. When your opponent is walking by your square, you can push your button and pull them into a battle for the next turn. You can also steal your opponents cards in this battle mode. Because this is such a fun and popular game, we have had to go out and buy more copies of this game several times. Enjoy!

Once upon a time, the peaceful Mushroom Kingdom was invaded by the Koopa, a tribe of turtles famous for their dark magic. These terrible terrapins transformed the peace-loving Mushroom People into stones, bricks, and ironically, mushrooms then set their own evil king on the throne. In the wake of the ghastly coup d'‚tat, the beautiful Mushroom Kingdom fell into ruin and despair. It is said that only the daughter of the Mushroom King, Princess Toadstool, can break the evil spell and return the inhabitants of the Mushroom Kingdom to their normal selves. But the King of the Koopas, knowing of this prophecy, kidnapped the lovely Princess and hid her away in one of his castles. Word of the terrible plight of the Mushroom People quickly spread throughout the land, eventually reaching the ears of a humble plumber. The simple, yet valiant Mario vowed to rescue the Princess from King Koopa's tyrannous reign. But can Mario really overcome the many obstacles facing him and become a true hero?
--from the Game Boy Color Super Mario Bros. Deluxe instruction manual

Super Mario Bros. Deluxe is pretty cool. When you play the original Super Mario Bros., it looks just like it did on the NES. The only difference was that the screen had to be downsized. The challenge part of the game is pretty cool too. You have to find all the red coins that have been added to the level, beat a high score, and find a Yoshi egg that was added to the level.

Super Mario Bros. Deluxe was a great idea. The truth is, everyone loves Super Mario Bros., and this game provided a way to play the mega classic on the Game Boy, and it offered a new style of gameplay in the same field. If you like Super Mario Bros., try Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, you'll love it!

After saving the Mushroom Kingdom from Bowser and the rest of the Koopas in Super Mario 3, Mario and Luigi needed to recuperate from their adventures. Together they agreed that the best place to vacation was a magical place called Dinosaur Land.

But while Mario and Luigi reclined on the beach for a relaxing nap, Princess Toadstool disappeared, apparently seized by evil forces. After searching for hours for their missing friend, Mario and Luigi came upon an enormous egg in the forest.

Suddenly the egg hatched, and out popped a young dinosaur named YOSHI, who proceeded to tell Mario and Luigi a sad tale of how his dinosaur pals were sealed in similar eggs by a group of monsterous turtles.

"Monsterous turtles!" exclaimed Luigi. "Bowser and his bunch have returned!" Mario slowly nodded his head in agreement and, along with Luigi and Yoshi, set off across Dinosaur Land to find the Princess and to free Yoshi's friends. As they began their journey, Yoshi handed Mario a beautiful cape. "This may help you," Yoshi said. "Some say it has magical powers."

With a little luck (and help from a magic cape), our hearty crew can defeat the seven worlds of Bowser's Krazy Koopa Kritters. Many locations are well-hidden so explore everywhere and try everything. Not all locations have to be explored to rescue the dinosaurs and save Princess Toadstool, but there are many "starry" treasures to be found in far-reaching places. You'll need to search all areas to find out what kinds of treasure are there... in Super Mario World.
--From the Super Nintendo Super Mario World instruction manual.

Super Mario World was one of the first games released for the SNES and one of the best Super Mario games ever. More people have played Super Mario World than any other game that I know of, and that should be a testament in and of itself. I have played this game more than any other game in my life, and that is the truth.

Super Mario World was one of the easiest games to learn how to play but one of the hardest to master. The graphics in Super Mario World are awesome, the color and design are just perfect, and the controls felt great. You also had a few new moves, including a new spinning jump that comes in handy. Also Super Mario World brought a new character to life, our beloved Yoshi. Yoshi is a friendly dino that helps Mario and Luigi save their kidnapped friends. Super Mario World was also filled with tons of secrets and cool new levels. So run, jump, and fly your way through this wonderful place known as Super Mario World to save the Princess one more time.

This story happened a long long time ago... This is a story about a baby and Yoshi...

A stork hurries across the dusky, pre-dawn sky. In his bill, he supports a pair of twins who are to be delivered to their parents as soon as possible.

Suddenly, something appears between the clouds and races towards the stork with blinding speed!

'SSCCRREEEEECH!!!', it screams. 'These babies are mine!'

Snatching only one baby, the creature vanishes into the darkness from whence it came.

Oh no! The second baby falls undetected towards the open sea...

The kidnapper is Kamek, an evil Magikoopa from the Koopa Kingdom. Having divined last night that twin babies born this morning will bring disaster to the Koopa family, he arranged for an early morning ambush. Returning to his castle, Kamek realizes that he missed the other baby. He orders his toadies.

'Go forth and find the other baby!! Don't let his parents get him back! Ever!!'

Meanwhile, the second baby does not fall into the sea after all...it lands safely on Yoshi's back! And right after him drops a map!!

This paradise is Yoshi's Island. And on this island lives lots of different Yoshies. These Yoshies are naturally laid back and relaxed, but this is a calamity and everyone is in a state of panic. As the Yoshies frantically yell over each other, the baby insistently points at something.

Yes! The baby can sense the other babys location. All the Yoshies quickly agree to help carry the baby to its destination by using a relay system not unlike the old pony express.

The Green Yoshi draws first honors.

--From the Super Nintendo Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island instruction manual.

Kamek, the leader before Bowser, heard news of two twins that were extra amazing. Knowing they could possibly defeat the new born Bowser (and did later, as we all know) he casts a spell and sends them to Yoshi's Island, trying to keep them there forever! Now, the Yoshies must return them to their natural state and make sure they grow up to save the universe!

What Is Game & Watch?

Originally released in the early 1980s, the "Game & Watch" line marked Nintendo's entry into the portable video game market.

Featuring liquid crystal displays and a handy size small enough to fit in a pocket, they quickly became a hit everywhere for gamers on the go.

"Ball," released in 1980, was the first of many released by Nintendo.

As the games evolved, so did the hardware.

Wario Land - Super Mario Land 3 (Gameboy)
Remember Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins? Wario tried to take over Mario's castle, but he didn't have much luck. Wario, being the persistent guy he is, has not given up. Now, he wants a castle more than ever before.

One day, Wario was practicing being mean when he thought to himself, "Rumor has it that the pirates of Kitchen Island have stolen the giant golden statue of Princess Toadstool. Mario is looking for it but, if I find it first, I could cash it in for a princess' ransom. With that cash and the other pirates' other treasures and coins, I could buy a palace that is way bigger than Mario's pathetic excuse for a castle. Ga, ha, ha, ha...! What am I waiting for?"

Full of confidence, Wario took off. He didn't even stop to think of how tough the Brown Sugar Pirates were. Their leader, Captain Syrup was known the world over for being a really rotten and ruthless guy.

Can Wario find the coins and treasures hidden on Kitchen Island? What will his new palace look like? Will he keep being so mean and ugly? Let's find out!

-With my 'body slam', I'm not afraid of pirates.

One quiet morning, Wario was resting peacefully in bed. He was so tired from treasure-hunting that he did not hear the suspicious intruders enter his castle. Who were these mysterious characters, and why are they after Wario's treasure?

"Aaargh! I can't believe that Captain Syrup and the Black Sugar Gang have stolen my treasure! I am one angry Wario! I'm going to get my tresures back if it's the last thing I do!

Another great platformer in the Mario/Wario series, Wario Land 2 involves the search to recover Wario's stolen treasures, and finally to defeat Captain Syrup. With tons of great features and lots of levels, the gameplay is really cool.

The graphics are awesome, especially for an 8-bit portable, with nice big, detailed sprites and good animation. Also the sound and music are pretty good, nothing special but not bad.

Don't think that because you can't die, Wario Land 2 will be easy. There are all kinds of things that can happen to Wario that don't kill him, but change his state in various ways, from Flat to Fat, to Fireball, to Zombie. Each state has certain drawbacks, some actually can be useful. Just one of many features that make Wario Land 2 an awesome game to try.

Wario couldn't believe it! It had been such a lovely day, with not a cloud in the sky--a perfect day to fly his plane. Then, without warning, his engine began to sputter, and Wario crash-landed in the woods! He spent the rest of his afternoon wandering amongst the trees and underbrush, muttering to himself about his miserable luck. Without looking where he was going, Wario stumbled right into a cave!

Inside the cave, he found a beautiful music box, but no matter how much Wario wound it up, no song could be heard. "What's-a this?!? It must-a be brok..." But before he could finish, Wario vanished with a flash! Only the music box remained, right where Wario found it.

Wario soon awoke to very different surroundings, and it wasn't long before he realized he was inside the music box! A mysterious figure informed Wario that he had once ruled the world inside the music box, until an evil being sealed away his magical powers in five music boxes.

Naturally, Wario wasn't too interested in this story... that is, until the figure promised to send Wario back to his own world and let him keep any Treasure he found, if he'd only recover the hidden figure's powers. Enticed by the thought of returning to his own world with a cache of Treasure, Wario departed on his quest-- in search of the music boxes and the many Treasures of this mysterious land!
