Xtreme Classix - Wario

Wario
He may seem like Mario's arch-nemesis at first, but he's not such a bad guy once you get to know him. In fact, Wario is a hero in his own little world. Or perhaps just in his own little mind.

Remember Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins? Wario tried to take over Mario's castle, but he didn't have much luck. Wario, being the persistent guy he is, has not given up. Now, he wants a castle more than ever before.

One day, Wario was practicing being mean when he thought to himself, "Rumor has it that the pirates of Kitchen Island have stolen the giant golden statue of Princess Toadstool. Mario is looking for it but, if I find it first, I could cash it in for a princess' ransom. With that cash and the other pirates' other treasures and coins, I could buy a palace that is way bigger than Mario's pathetic excuse for a castle. Ga, ha, ha, ha...! What am I waiting for?"

Full of confidence, Wario took off. He didn't even stop to think of how tough the Brown Sugar Pirates were. Their leader, Captain Syrup was known the world over for being a really rotten and ruthless guy.

Can Wario find the coins and treasures hidden on Kitchen Island? What will his new palace look like? Will he keep being so mean and ugly? Let's find out!

-With my 'body slam', I'm not afraid of pirates.

One quiet morning, Wario was resting peacefully in bed. He was so tired from treasure-hunting that he did not hear the suspicious intruders enter his castle. Who were these mysterious characters, and why are they after Wario's treasure?

"Aaargh! I can't believe that Captain Syrup and the Black Sugar Gang have stolen my treasure! I am one angry Wario! I'm going to get my tresures back if it's the last thing I do!

Another great platformer in the Mario/Wario series, Wario Land 2 involves the search to recover Wario's stolen treasures, and finally to defeat Captain Syrup. With tons of great features and lots of levels, the gameplay is really cool.

The graphics are awesome, especially for an 8-bit portable, with nice big, detailed sprites and good animation. Also the sound and music are pretty good, nothing special but not bad.

Don't think that because you can't die, Wario Land 2 will be easy. There are all kinds of things that can happen to Wario that don't kill him, but change his state in various ways, from Flat to Fat, to Fireball, to Zombie. Each state has certain drawbacks, some actually can be useful. Just one of many features that make Wario Land 2 an awesome game to try.

Wario couldn't believe it! It had been such a lovely day, with not a cloud in the sky--a perfect day to fly his plane. Then, without warning, his engine began to sputter, and Wario crash-landed in the woods! He spent the rest of his afternoon wandering amongst the trees and underbrush, muttering to himself about his miserable luck. Without looking where he was going, Wario stumbled right into a cave!

Inside the cave, he found a beautiful music box, but no matter how much Wario wound it up, no song could be heard. "What's-a this?!? It must-a be brok..." But before he could finish, Wario vanished with a flash! Only the music box remained, right where Wario found it.

Wario soon awoke to very different surroundings, and it wasn't long before he realized he was inside the music box! A mysterious figure informed Wario that he had once ruled the world inside the music box, until an evil being sealed away his magical powers in five music boxes.

Naturally, Wario wasn't too interested in this story... that is, until the figure promised to send Wario back to his own world and let him keep any Treasure he found, if he'd only recover the hidden figure's powers. Enticed by the thought of returning to his own world with a cache of Treasure, Wario departed on his quest-- in search of the music boxes and the many Treasures of this mysterious land!
