Castlevania (NES) Review by dorsalblader

dorsalblader's review of Castlevania (NES)

Castlevania NES Screenshot 1
Play Control: 5
the controls are more smooth than almost every other side scroller I've ever played on a NES (possibly even Super Mario Bros.) My only complaint is that you have to press up and B in order to use the secondary weapon, rather than having it have its own button, but that's the way the NES was designed, so it's not like there's anything to be done about it.

Graphics: 5
the graphics are stunning for those of an NES. You never stare at the screen wondering "What the heck is that?"

Animation: 5
Everything runs smooth, there is never any perceptible lag.

Music: 4
Simple but elegant. It really provides an atmosphere for each of the levels, and the boss music really carries a sense of urgency.

Sound FX: 4
Very cool, and always logical.

Plot: 4
Basic, but excellent

Difficulity: 4
Extremely difficult, but never so hard that you feel hopeless.

Replay Value: 3
It's good, but once you've beat it once (which I have!) there's not much difference the second time.

Over All: 5
One of the best sidescrollers I've ever played on any system (handheld or otherwise), Castlevania is a must-play for anyone who liked the original Zelda or Metroid.
